Unparalleled Parables: Small Stories With Great Meaningಮಾದರಿ

What’s your most useless talent?
The other day, I was listening to a radio show while driving, and they asked people to share their most useless talent. The responses were hilarious—from a guy who could recite the alphabet backwards at lightning speed to a girl who perfectly imitated a fire truck.
Impressive? Yes.
Useful? Not so much. 🤣
The point of a talent is, of course, to use it. That’s the message conveyed by Jesus loud and clear in the parable of The Talents (Matthew 25:14-30).
Let’s look a bit more closely at what a talent is.
In the original context, the “talents” Jesus spoke of weren’t skills or abilities—they were huge bags of gold or silver. Each talent was worth around 20 years’ wages. In today’s terms, that could mean anywhere between ₹4 to ₹8 crore. 😳
Jesus was making a point: those servants were entrusted with A LOT. Even the third servant who received “only one” talent had something of incredible value in his hands.
And guess what? We’re the servants in the story!
So…what have we been entrusted with?
For most of us, it’s not literal crores of rupees; we’ve been given something far more valuable.
Yes, there are the obvious talents—the things we’re good at, the passions we carry, the skills we’ve developed.
But our “bags of gold” go far beyond that.
They include family connections, social positions, education, and experiences, as well as our very being, our life, every single breath, and every opportunity and interaction God puts in front of us on a day-to-day basis.
Basically, everything that makes you, you.
You are God’s most valuable possession; you are worth more than 20 years' wages! And your life is the greatest capital investment God has entrusted to you.
Hey! You are a Chamatkar.

Jesus often chose to teach through parables for a reason: these simple yet profound stories conveyed deep spiritual truths and timeless life lessons in a way that resonated deeply with His listeners. When we take the time to understand them within their historical and cultural context—hearing them as His original audience would have—we, too, can experience their transformative power.
