Do you have a desire to change your world?

Most Christians want to improve their skills in sharing their own faith story, but many don't know what to do. But here’s what I’ve learned: Most unbelievers are willing to listen to us, more than we are willing to share.

In these five short lessons, we can help you overcome your fears and tell your own story with fresh confidence. We hope you will complete all five lessons, because we believe you can influence your culture and double your fruitfulness when you stand before Jesus one day. We have divided the One Minute Witness into five parts, called fingers.

Today is Finger 1: "Permission"

Permission treats people with respect. When people are asked an interesting question, they usually want to answer, especially when it's a question about themselves.

When we prayerfully approach a friend or a stranger, we smile, introduce ourselves, and begin a conversation. At some point, we ask the key question of permission.

Here are five permission questions you can try out, or you can use your own:

“I’m working on an assignment. May I ask you a question? What is the best thing that has ever happened to you in your life?” Then talk about their best thing. Then ask, “May I tell you the best thing in my life?” (This is our most used permission question.)

“I know there’s a lot of fear in our world. May I tell you how I overcome my fear?”

For the married: “I’ve been married for ___ years. May I tell you my secret to success?”

For the single: “I’ve been alive now for ___ years. May I tell you the best story of my life?”

“Hey, before I leave you today, do you have a quick minute to hear my story?”

After that, you begin the “Before Christ” part of your story, which is our next lesson!

Here are three things I’ve learned:

1. People are willing to listen to a short story.
2. No one can argue with you, because you are telling your own experience.
3. You may be one of the very first people that shared about Jesus with them in a loving and natural way.
