Reading With the People of God #12 - the Good Lifeნიმუში

Waiting Between the Known and the New
Holy Saturday is a day of tension—the space between the sorrow of Good Friday and the joy of Easter. It’s a time of waiting, of uncertainty, of wondering what comes next.
In 2 Kings 2, Elisha experiences a similar moment. His mentor, Elijah, is about to be taken away, and Elisha refuses to leave his side. When the moment finally comes, Elijah is taken up in a whirlwind, and Elisha is left standing, wondering—has he truly received the power and calling he was promised? Only when he takes up Elijah’s cloak and parts the Jordan does he realize that God has been faithful.
Jesus, in Matthew 7:15-23, warns about those who claim to follow Him but lack true faith. He reminds us that words alone are not enough—it is by our fruit, by the evidence of our faith, that we are known. On Holy Saturday, the disciples sat in the unknown. Would Jesus rise? Was their faith real, or had they followed in vain?
Waiting can feel uncertain, but it is in these moments that faith is tested. Like Elisha, like the disciples, we must choose whether we will step forward, trusting in God’s promises, or stay stuck in fear.
As you read these passages, reflect:
How do you respond when God calls you to trust Him in the waiting?
About this Plan

This is the twelfth installment of a Bible reading plan following the lectionary pattern, offering daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to help prepare your heart and mind for a deeper, more meaningful encounter with Scripture. While this plan is designed to align with Holy Week in April, it can be used at any time, though it will be most relevant during that season.
