Grace With a Taste of Cinnamon

DAY 4 OF 5

The Beauty of the Created World

God has hallowed the material world. Therefore, we can see His grace in everything that is around us.

Christmas reminds us that God is not ashamed of the material world. On the contrary, He came into it. The embodiment of Jesus Christ means that ordinary things, such as home, food, aromas, and touch, can become the place of an encounter with Heaven.

We often think that spiritual things are something distant and invisible. But God acts even in simple, “earthly” things. He created the world and said, “It was very good,” and then He himself came here to share our joy and exhaustion, our celebrations and our pain.

When inhaling the aroma of cinnamon, looking at the shimmering lights on the Christmas tree, or drinking hot tea, we can see not just ordinary household things, but the sign of God’s kindness. Material things do not distance us from God – they can make us closer to Him if we receive them with gratitude.

So do enjoy the beauty of this world, not as a temporary delight but as a part of God’s plan. Every single creation is not an obstacle for human faith but a proof of the love of the Creator, who wants to be by our side.

Steps of Love

Let these steps of love help you today to see God’s grace in the ordinary things:

  • Pause for a moment, and thank God for the beauty that you have never noticed before, e.g., aroma, color, warmth, sound.
  • Give someone a gift that brings beauty, such as flowers, a drawing, a scented candle, or something handmade.
  • Spend some time outdoors or in some cozy place, to remind yourself that this world is a gift God entrusted us to keep safe.

About this Plan

Grace With a Taste of Cinnamon

For most of us, cinnamon smells of holiday – warmth of a home, hot tea, snug and coziness. But a real Christmas also “smells” of grace – God’s love that comes into the most ordinary things. This plan is about learning to “savor” grace even in the simplest gifts.
