A Grateful Heart

DAY 5 OF 5

Open Windows

Today is a good day to stop and think about the blessings God has given us, the ones that allow us to count ourselves as truly blessed. Everyone has different blessings and benefits given by the God of heaven. Each person can have an individualized list of good things they have received from Him.

However, when it comes to the blessings we have because of our faith in Christ Jesus, they are all the same, and none of them are exclusive to only some people. That is, they aren't for some, yes, and others no. When Jesus died on the cross and His sacrifice for humanity was completed, the windows of heaven were opened for everyone who has believed in the greatest act of love ever conceived in heaven and made real on Earth.

God with us—the Christ who became human, the Christ who died and rose again—secured for those of us who believe the great riches of glory resulting from the cross. The Apostle Paul prayed that the Christians in Ephesus would receive wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, and that the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened. “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)

Yes, dear ones, the windows of heaven have been opened with blessings and riches for those who believe in Christ. In 1 Corinthians 6:11 (NIV) we read, “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” Paul summarizes it in Ephesians 1:3 (NIV) when he says: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Some people feel that those windows have closed; they look around, and their eyes focus on what they don’t have or what they lack. Trials, difficulties, problems we bring on ourselves, or problems that arrive unexpectedly, choke out the riches we possess in Him, just like the thorns in Jesus’ parable.

Let's not let anything or anyone make us forget that the God of heaven has opened the windows of heaven to bless us with every spiritual blessing. Let's be sure that His love has not lessened, that day by day, it continues to pour out blessings and mercies toward us. The blood of Christ is just as effective as when we first believed, as is everything He achieved for us on the cross. Let us rejoice because He continues to fill our hearts with provision and joy.
