How great thou art: Sovereignty; Mickey Connolly; July 8 2012
Sovereignty: Supreme authority of God. God has planned has a purpose for and is in complete control of everyaspect if his creation Both good and bad, including our individual lives. He does this in succh a way that he never authors or approves of sin or relieves man of his responsibility by violating his will. He does all for his glory and all he does in relation to those whom he chooses andloves is for their good.
Ephesians 1:7, 11 ESV
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,
Isaiah 46:8-11 ESV
"Remember this and stand firm,
recall it to mind, you transgressors,
remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, 'My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,'
calling a bird of prey from the east,
the man of my counsel from a far country.
I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
I have purposed, and I will do it.
GODS PLANS CAN NEVER BE THWARTED. Since he is all powerful nothing can thwart his plans. He has complete control of ALL under his creation. God governs nature; they operate by laws created by God. God can defy nature if he pleases.
Proverbs 16:33 ESV
The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the Lord.
God is in control of all the nations. What they do has been willed by him. God is control of the devil. God sets the devil's limits. God has the devil on a leash. The devil cannot act unless the Lord allows him.
When sovereignty gets down to our life, this reeally determines what we believe about this doctrine. God has planned my life down to the most minute detail.
Proverbs 16:9 NIV
In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.
God is sovereign over each individual salvation.
Romans 9:19-20 ESV
You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?" But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me like this?"
Scripture teaches God's sovereignty and our responsibility. We may not be able to understand this but we should take it with faith.
1) WE MUST BOW. This sovereignty is tough to take but when we understand hiis soceregnty rightly this can be our only response to bow.
2) WE MUST TRUST. He is a very loving God. He is infallibly and faithfully working for our good. Whenna all seems out of control God iis most definitely still in control. Any trust in anything else is trust is something that is not completely loving and wise.
Luke 12:6-7 ESV
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
