Josiah - a light of hope
In this chapter the prophet or "man of God" predicts a king by the name of Josiah will come and set things right in Israel. He will eventually emerge on the scene in 2 Kings 21. He will discover the book of the law in temple & renew the covenant in Israel.
As mentioned in other notes the role of the king in Israel was to maintain justice & righteousness. The way they do that is through knowing the book of the law inside and out. The king was supposed to read & right the law all the days of their rule. But by the fact that Josiah had never hear of the law until he finds it in the temple, is an indicator that the kings of Israel had discarded the law.
In many ways Josiah is a reformer. He sets things right. He also is a pointer to Jesus Christ who in John 13 gives a "new law" and also renews the covenant again.
