2 Corinthians 6:3-13
This is Paul's personal commendation of himself to the church of Corinth. If we are all gospel ministers, then is the personal commendation of my life & example as a gospel minister making it easier or harder for gospel itself to be commended through me?
REASON (3 & 4)
How Corinthians thought about Paul had implicatiions beyond just this. His ministry to them was in doubt and therefore the gospel. "If the messenger is discredited, so is his message." This is about the eternal destiny of souls. Does my life put obstacles in peoples understanding of the gospel or remove them? Does my life commend the gospel.
1) Suffering & sacrifice- For the gospel and for others to minister the gospel to others. Paul knew what it was like to suffer for Christ. BY GREAT ENDURANCE the gospel commends him. When things got more tough so did Paul. Paul is like "the ship that wouldn't die." He keeps ministering the gospel through continuous suffering & sacrifice.
2) Character & conduct- Asking Corinthians to think about how he has responded. "I have the fruits of the spirit in me because I have the spirit within me." Our weapon is righteousness given to us by Christ. Paul remained faithful through it all for the sake of Christ. In bringing Corinthians Christ he has made them rich. IN CHRIST AND HIS GOSPEL I HAVE EVERYTHING! All these things should commend Paul's ministry
Paul is appealing as a spiritual father (This is his only command in this ENTIRE passage). He's asking them to examine these things to find no fault in his ministry; it commends itslef in every possible way & therefore the gospel. OUR LIFE SHOULD PUT NO OBSTACLES IN GOSPEL MINISTRY. OUR LIVES SHOULD BE A COMMENDATION OF THE GOSPEL, SO WE CAN SAY "OPEN WIDE YOUR HEARTS NOT TO ME, BUT RATHER TO CHRIST."
Verse 3 should be my prayer
2 Corinthians 6:3 ESV
We put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry,
Is there any sacrifice that I will not sacrifice that will hold me back form commending the gospel?
Will I respond with a constant steadiness of faithfulness to commend the testimony of the gospel?
