The Day Is Here: "The mission
There are smarter people than me. This is undeniable. We are constantly needy of God's help. JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD, THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN OF WHICH WE ARE BEING CALLED TO!!!
THE MISSION CONTINUED (1-6) PORAIT OF JESUS MESSAGE
The action from previous chapters slows down. Jesus comes back home to no fanfare. Comes back to VERY SMALL town. Trip to Nazareth was not a family reunion. Jesus came to preach the Kingdom of God, "Repent of your sins, for the kingdom of God is at hand." Nazarenes are astonished but filled with anger. "And they took offense at him." People in his hometown were not even recognizing Joseph as his father. They are "Scandalized" with what he was claiming. Who does Jesus think he is to tell us these things? God?!?! Familiarity breeds contempt. They were filled with so much contempt they could not even see God in front of them. Jesus couuld do no mighty works because it would have been morally wrong for him to do miracles among such disbelief. Where Jesus was not trusted it would have been morally wrong to do miracles there. They miss out on God's blessing b/c of their arrogance. Mercy of Christ triumphs Judgement. EVEN THOSE WHO DESERVE IT RECEIVE MERCY. MERCY TRIUMPHS EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF PLACES. Jesus only marvels at two points; one is of extreme faith & one is of extreme disbelief. As savior enters his hometown he experiences one of his darkest moments, aside from his crucifixion.
THE MISSION EXPANDED (6-13) PORTRAIT OF OUR MISSION
Jesus expands his mission to include others besides himself. Authority of gospel WILL & DOES CHANGE LIVES. Christ shall be our armor. Think of David. Iif we truly go in Christ's authority that is all you really need. Opposition shall come our way and we shall be rejected. THE AUTHORITY WORKED FOR JESUS, WILL IT WORK FOR US? Shaking off the dust is a sign of God's judgement against that people. Expanding mission means mission will be brought to a Hell-Bent enemy. Mission Jesus expanded for us is definitely a battle of epic proportions. Ground we fight on is littered with casualties. The gospel is our flag. Telling others Christ has died for them plants that flag in their heart. God has promised the gospel is the power of salvation. We never know how long our time on the earth is and how long the time is for people we are trying to spread the gospel to. We are not alone in this mission. GOD HAS GIVEN US HiS AUTHORITY AND PRESENCE TO SHARE THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION TO CAUSE CHANGE AND PLANT THE FLAG OF CHRIST. We are here to continue Jesus' mission if we are willing. We can take up our cross & endure hardship to lead people to Jesus. Jesus expanded his mission through us
Do I believe the gospel works? Is there even a trace of unbelief in my heart?
Am I avoiding letting my connection to Christ be known?
Am I a disciple willing to bear shame for Jesus?
Am I a disciple willing to bear Christ's flag where I live?
There is a "Tommy" in every life here but our purpose is to plant the flag of Christ TO ALL!!!
