Who's In Charge Here?
I am a planner. I know my plans seldom work out, but I keep on planning. Planning helps relieve my anxiety about a little reality I'd like to ignore: I don't have control . . . but it feels good to think I do.
So God comes along, and he says:
"Frankie, my boy, would you like to know what I have planned for you today? I think you'll find this really exciting."
"Not really God. You see, I'm busy making my own plans, and frankly, I'm in charge of my day. You did after all give me the freedom to plan my own day, so forgive me, but I'm doing exactly that."
Looking over my shoulder from an infinitely high perspective, God asks, "Where am I in today's planning schedule?"
"God, excuse me, but I have a full day, and I really don't have time to relax, clear my mind, and lounge around with you. Things have to get done you know!"
"Sounds like your in charge here, and I'm not really needed. So, I guess I'll just get back to running the universe while you manage your own life. Oh, by the way Frankie, that little matter of your death, you might what to include managing that in your daily schedule too. Could happen at any time, you know."
