Advice from the Lord
Aah doesn't my text speak volumes to your heart? It did mine. In fact it hit me like a two edge sword that I have to asked myself; "how many times have I tried do things my way because I though I had a better grip on the situation than I really had."
You see, in studying God's word, it really shows our failures, but that is really good, because He allows to stumble when we don't follow His ways. Call it discipline as we read here in chapter 3, verse 11 - 12;
"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent His rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those He loves as a father the son delights in."
So, when we think we are wise and turn from the path He sits before us, we often stumble and look, well, kinda foolish, don't you agree?
So what is the problem here? It is called pride and wanting to be independent. Yeah, I know, many may not agree, but I think it is the truth, at least in my life.
Here are simple facts regarding my text as in starts off ;
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart..."
God doesn't waste time getting to the point here, does He. So here is what I read from His opening statement; submit and surrender all, YES - NO!!. Whoa, I'm in trouble now!
Submit? Now I wrote about this in regards to marriage and how it is such an ugly word, but it doesn't improve here neither. The fact is, we have to swallow our pride and submit our ways to His, but man it is so hard to do sometimes, is it not?
Submitting to God's way and following Him is the only true way to be fulfilled with joy and peace that surpasses any human understanding, even when it does not make sense.
What do I mean? I mean, we pray with all of hearts, seeking answers from God about a relationship, a storm or conflict which enters our lives, which they always will, we may think God hasn't heard our us and then as a rebellious child, decide to go my way because He hasn't come through based on my timing, then we lean on our own wisdom, (big mistake) and take matter is our own hands and flop.
You see God has heard our cry's, but we need to wait on Him, because His timing is always on time, and because ,next part of my text, He plainly tells us;
"lean not on your own understanding..."
So what do we need to do? As stated above, submit to Him or as He informs here;
"In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight."
Easy? Not really, not when the other side is there planting stupid thoughts in our heads. The only problem is that many us react to those thoughts. You see, thought and temptation does not get into trouble, it is reacting to them that does, and that where we fail.
So how can we overcome this pride and our rebellious attitude, leaning on our our ways? Simple, call out to God with all your heart, wait and follow His lead, not your own or what the Satan may have temped you with.
Yes it can be hard to do, since we are impatient flawed humans, but God is there and He gives an escape, a way out and when you think it is Him answering you, then it will line up with us word.
So here is what we need to put into our lives and have written on our hearts to any situation or storms that will enter our lives:
"Do not be wise in your own eyes.... trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways SUBMIT to Him and He will make you paths straight....fear the Lord and shun evil (any thoughts, temptations or tricks Satan will use to make you stumble)"
If we continue to memorize and act daily on this, then, as I said above and others will see it in our walk, we'll have a peace and joy within us that surpasses any human understanding because instead of leaning on our wisdom and ways, we have surrender and submitted our lives to the Lord.
It is all about faith and trust, keeping our eyes straight on Jesus our Lord and Savior and taking all He has told us in His word, holding it within our hearts and following Him, in good times and storms and when nothing makes sense.
