Le roi Ézékias reçoit les messagers de Babylone
1À cette époque, le roi de Babylone, Mérodak-Baladan, fils de Baladan, a appris qu’Ézékias avait été malade et qu’il était guéri. Alors il lui a envoyé des messagers pour lui porter une lettre et un cadeau. 2Ézékias s’est réjoui de leur arrivée. Il leur a fait visiter la maison où il gardait les objets précieux, argent, or, parfums et huile parfumée. Il leur a montré aussi tout son magasin d’armes et tout ce qui se trouvait dans ses réserves. Il ne leur a rien caché dans sa maison et dans tout son royaume.
3Ensuite, le prophète Ésaïe est venu trouver le roi Ézékias et il lui a demandé : « Qu’est-ce que ces gens t’ont dit ? D’où venaient-ils ? » Ézékias a répondu : « Ils sont venus me voir de très loin, de Babylone. » 4Ésaïe a continué : « Qu’est-ce qu’ils ont vu dans ton palais ? » Ézékias a dit : « Ils ont tout vu. Je leur ai montré tous mes trésors, je ne leur ai rien caché. »
5Alors Ésaïe a dit à Ézékias : « Écoute la parole du Seigneur de l’univers : 6Un jour, tout ce qui est dans ton palais, tout ce que les rois précédents y ont mis, tout cela sera emporté à Babylone. Oui, le Seigneur le dit, il ne restera rien ici. 7On emmènera là-bas plusieurs de ceux qui seront nés de toi. Ils serviront comme eunuques dans le palais du roi de Babylone. »
8Ézékias a répondu à Ésaïe : « Cette parole du Seigneur que tu m’annonces est une bonne chose. » Il pense en effet : « Pendant ma vie, nous vivrons en paix et en sécurité. »

Towards the Captivity
1At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered. 2And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
3Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon. 4Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
5Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD of hosts: 6Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. 7And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. 8Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
