Margin - The amount available beyond what is needed. The space between our current performance and our peak.
1. - Moral Margins
+ Put space between you and temptation!
+ Our natural tendency is to have no margin or to walk the line.
+ We set ourselves up for failure because a "wind of temptation" can easily push us over the line.
+ We must have a plan ahead of time.
-Without margins we WILL cross the line.
-Crossing the line causes great moral damage: guilt, shame, regret etc.
-Life will have it's low points, let's not further help the enemy by crossing the line on our own.
-Once trust is broken it is difficult to regain.
-God will help us overcome the damage but we will not out live it.
-Sin will take you further than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want pay.
+ Our faith will help us build margins.
+ Establishing MARGINS:
-2. Control your environment - the people and places.
-3. Guard your eyes.
-4. Guard time with the wrong people.
-5. Avoid inappropriate conversations.
-6. Avoid inappropriate situations.
+ Don't see how close you can get to the alligator, instead see how far away you can stay.
+ Do whatever it takes to maintain your life BEFORE the line is crossed not AFTER when you're trying to rebuild!
2 - Emotional Margins
+ The distance between our level of stress and a nervous breakdown.
+ Fear is an open door to everything negative you are trying to avoid.
+ Living just above the margin is not enjoyable, the smallest obstacle can crush us.
+ Big life events are catastrophic.
+ How do we restore and maintain our emotional margins?
-1. Put/keep God in our life as a shield to breakdown. "Encourage and strengthen ourselves in the Lord"!
-2. It is never too late (or too early) to turn to God.
-3. Surround yourself with the right people. Separate yourself from the conflict.
-4. Stay plugged in at your Church.
-5. Wait on the Lord your God. Be still and know that He is present. "They that wait upon the Lord are restored."
-6. Let God's word be our guide and the Holy Spirit our compass.
-7. Be courageous knowing the Lord is on your side.
-8. Strengthen yourself and seek guidance through prayer.
+ God will take an overwhelming situation and turn it into a remarkable and invaluable opportunity to fortify our faith and purpose
3 - Margins for Christ
+ Our natural inclination is to push our limits.
+ When you run close to your margin(s):
- Your stress level goes up.
- Your focus narrows.
+ "On the seventh day he rested", "give back to me the first 10%" - maintain your margins!
+ If we constantly push it to the limit, we WILL exceed that limit and bad things will happen.
+ When margins decrease, relationship suffers. "Put a pin in it" and take moments to recover by trusting in God.
+ Knock on His door and eat with Him. The margin is the place where we fellowship with the Lord. We must invite Him by creating margins.
+ If we don't create margins, they will be created for us through a breakdown.
