The Nature of God and the Resurrection
I. Two Hard Questions:
a. Why did Jesus have to die?
b. What difference does it make that He rose from the dead?
c. The resurrection is foundational to the Christian faith. (1 Corinthians 15)
II. God's Justice and Man's Sin
a. God is perfectly just (right/righteous)
i. Deuteronomy 32:4
ii. Job 34:12
iii. Colossians 3:25
b. Man's sin breaks God's perfect creation
c. The debt of sin had to be paid (Romans 6:23)
III. God's Eternal Nature and Man's Created Nature
a. God cannot cease to exist - He is eternal.
b. A perfect, finite man could pay for one person's sin, but not the world's sin.
c. Only an infinite God can pay for an infinite amount of sin.
IV. God's Perfect Love and Man's Desperation
a. Man cannot escape the penalty of sin.
b. God would not be perfectly loving if He allowed man to eternally die (Genesis 3:22-23)
c. God's justice meets His love at the cross.
