DISCIPLESHIP, LUKE 14:25-33

In the Great Commission, Jesus didn’t say, “Go and make converts.” He said, “Go and make disciples.” But to “make disciples”, we have to know what it means to be a disciple, and to make sure we are one ourselves.
A. To love Christ above our love of OTHERS.
B. To love Christ above our love of OURSELF: “his own life also.”
II. You cannot be My disciple.
A. Jesus demands that we carry our crosses. He demands our LIFE. (Jim Parsi)
B. Three ideas grow out of these verses:
1. One muse choose to bear a cross; it’s not forced.
2. Each of our crosses is personalized.
3. Cross-bearing involves the commonplace.
III. You cannot be My disciple.
A. Jesus asks for us to part with our possessions. He asks for our LIVELIHOOD.
B. “Forsake” means to renounce, to bid farewell.
The three important signs of being a disciple of Jesus:

• Being called by Him
• Being with Him
• Being empowered and sent out by Him
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
