Deuteronomy 6:4-5 ESV
I. Have you ever wondered what God's love language is? Actually, He communicates His love in a very clear and definitive way!

II. But how do we communicate love to God? Deuteronomy 11 answers that question for us; the message of that chapter is simply this: To love God is to obey God.

III. Moses will teach us in Deuteronomy 11 what it means to love God, issuing three challenges to love God by obeying God. Consider, first of all, the call to loving obedience; from the very first verse, is laying down the foundational truth of this chapter: Love God, and keep His Word.
IV. The children of this generation of people that Moses addresses were not in Egypt; they had not experienced all of the wilderness wanderings firsthand. It's almost as if Moses is suggesting that their children might have some excuse, because they’ve only heard about these things; they hadn't seen these things, but their parents had seen God work!
V. This ought to speak to us! There are some new believers who've got growing up to do, but some of us who have seen God do much for us, should have no desire to continue in our foolish ways!
VI. This is the first reason he says why you should lovingly obey God: because when you determine to live life on your own terms, God knows how to put you in your place!
VII. There is not only a call to loving obedience, but the consequence of loving obedience: judgment on disobedience, and God’s blessing on obedience.
VIII. Moses says if you obey God, He will bless you, and he describes the blessing: he says God will bless you first of all with land; “You shall therefore keep the whole commandment that I command you today..." Note the word, “whole”; not “some of the commands I am giving you today”, but all of them! There's a word for selective obedience; do you know what it is? Disobedience!
IX. God is saying, “And if you will indeed obey My commands that I command you today—to love the Lord your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul …" Notice the cluster of three terms here: Obey God. Love God. Serve God. To love God is to obey God, and to obey God is to serve God!
X. To develop a life of loving obedience to God, you've got to saturate your life with the Word of God.

XII. If you lovingly obey God, God knows how to put you right where you're supposed to be!--and once you get there, He knows how to take care of every one of your needs.
XIII. Moses finishes with this major point: “What are you going to do in response to the Word?” V. 26-28; there are two ways to live: the way of Divine blessing, and the way of Divine curse.
XIV. A momentary choice can end up having lifelong consequences; Moses is not just saying “make your choice.”, He's saying “do the right thing, because God punishes disobedience, but blesses obedience.”
