Text: Daniel 6
6:1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps (governors), to be throughout the whole kingdom; 2 and over them three high officials, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss. 3 Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
What DISTINGUISHED DANIEL
He was EXCELLENT in DEVOTION
6:10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.
He was EXCELLENT in DIET
1:8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself….12 “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king’s food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” 14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king’s food. 16 So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
He was EXCELLENT in DISCIPLINE
1:3 Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and of the nobility, 4 youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king’s palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. 5 The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king
Habitude determines Altitude
“You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.” James Clear, Atomic Habits
Most of the choices we make each day may feel like the products of well-considered decision making, but they’re not. They're habits. And though each habit means relatively little on its own, over time, the meals we order, what we say to our kids each night, whether we save or spend, how often we exercise, and the way we organize our thoughts and work routines have enormous impacts on our health, productivity, financial security, and happiness. One paper published by a Duke University researcher in 2006 found that more than 40 percent of the actions people performed each day weren’t actual decisions, but habits.
- The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg 120
Small, Smart/Foolish Choices + Consistency + Time = Radical Difference.
No wonder Jesus commanded us to go and make DISCIPLES not CONVERTS!
Who do you want to be in 2030?
WHAT DOES THAT PERSON DO?
Ask: What ONE habit, must I add to my life that will, over time, with consistency produce the radical result I seek?
Keystone habits are “small changes or habits that people introduce into their routines that unintentionally carry over into other aspects of their lives.”

4 Keys To Habit Formation
Habit Loop—Cue - > Crave - > Respond - > Reward
1) Make it obvious (CUE)
I will do [_______] after I [________].
2) Make it Attractive (CRAVE)
3) Make It Easy (RESPOND)
4) Make it Satisfying (REWARD)
10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. Zech 4:10 NLT
