The Point

Seek to align your will with God’s will.
Life Connection

God’s people have always lived with a tension between God’s will and our own free will. The Bible affirms both, but in our finite minds, it can be difficult to reconcile the sovereign will of God and our own ability to choose. It is comforting to know that God’s sovereign will is linked to His love for us. We can know and follow His will for us as we willingly live to please Him.
The Setting

In Ephesians 1:3-14, the apostle Paul wrote of how God has blessed believers with every spiritual blessing in Christ. He described the process by which God has saved believers, which was begun before the creation of the world. In Romans 11:33–12:2, Paul wrote a hymn of praise, followed by an exhortation for believers to live lives that are holy and pleasing to God.

What are some obstacles to discerning God’s will?
When we base our life on our best thinking, we short-change ourselves. Consider the following suggestions.

Praise our Father. Praise God for His love and mercy. Thank Him for working in your life.

Take a look back. Sometimes it’s easier to see the purposes of God by looking in the rearview mirror. Look back on key moments in your life and consider how God was at work in each of those situations. Make a list of your findings as a reminder that God is at work even though you may not fully understand how.

Share and pray with others. Share with your group or a close Christian friend ways the world is trying to conform your thinking. Pray together that your minds would be renewed in the ways of God.
The world’s way of thinking may seem fine, but it will never lead us to live out God’s will. We should focus on renewing our minds through God’s Spirit, so we can know and do the will of God.
