SERMON: “A Firm Foundation” ~ Luke 6:46-49

“Building a life on the Rock of Christ begins with humility.”

1. Acceptance: God’s Ways Are Not Our Ways
2. Acknowledge: Christ Is Lord
3. Assess: Where Are You Placing Your Trust?

God promises that He will never leave us or forsake us and everything that is needed to build a life on the Rock of Christ has been accomplished in His death and resurrection.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:

1. We all have all fallen short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23) because it is our nature. Since the fall we have the desire to be in control of our own lives, we strive to be the master of our own domain. To build our lives on the Rock of Christ we must realize that there is a God, He cares for us and we can trust Him with every aspect of our lives. What people, places or things do you have the power to control? What people, places or things have you been attempting to control?
2. Often when we attempt to control our life, situations, relationships, and environments in our own strength we are often let down and feel helpless and hopeless. How does trying to manage your fear, frustration, fatigue and failure affect your relationship with God? How does it affect your relationship with others?
3. Read Romans 7:15-24. What is the source of his problems according to these verses? Where did they originate? Now read Romans 8:1-3. What is the hope that we receive from these verses?
4. Read 2 Corinthians 4:7-9; Philippians 4:11-13, Matthew 11:28-30 and Philippians 1:6. How can we receive hope in these verses in building our lives on the Rock? Where does our power and strength come from?
5. Assessment is important to our Christian walk. Lamentations 3:40 says, “Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!” Why is it important to test and examine our ways? What are some ways that we can test and examine our deeds and motives?
6. Confession is a large part of examination and assessment of our thoughts and motives. Read 1 John 1:9 and James 5:16. Who are we to confess our sins to in order to have a right relationship with God and honestly assess where we are putting our trust?
