A Biblical Perspective on Raising Children
· Children are an incredible blessing given to us by God! (Psalm 127:3)
· Since kids are a gift, worship the giver and not the gift, keep children in proper perspective
· You can invest in children even if you don’t have your own or yours are grown
· Parents are responsible to provide for their children’s physical needs (1 Timothy 5:8)
· Parents are responsible to teach their children:
1. To obey & honor their parents (Ephesians 6:1)
2. Teach them about God (Deuteronomy 6:4)
3. Teach them to love God (Deuteronomy 6:5)
4. Teach them the Word of God (Deuteronomy 6:6)
5. Teach them by living on mission (Deuteronomy 6:7)
6. Teach them the truth about this world (Deuteronomy 6:10-14)
Biblical Perspective for Setting Healthy Boundaries for Extended Family
· Boundaries are for you, not against someone else (Proverbs 22:3, 10, 24-25)
· Remember your business is your business – Leave and cleave
· Understand that “No” can be both loving and empowering
· Be willing to help family, but don’t enable
· Never borrow/loan money – it changes everything, especially with family
· Remember that one of God’s best blessings can be extended family and their wisdom
