Women's Fall Study - Slaying The Giants In Your Life
Who Are These Giants? They cast their long shadow over everything we aspire to do, every new land we seek to inhabit, every dream we hope to pursue. Today we’d call them bullies, but they’re the same old giants, and they have us intimidated in the same old way.

Fear. Discouragement. Loneliness. Worry. Guilt. Temptation. Anger. Resentment. Doubt. Procrastination. Failure. Jealousy.

This 13 week study, will start on Tuesday, September 10 at 9:30am and Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30pm. (Childcare is only available on Wednesday evenings.) The cost of the study guide is $11. You can register online at https://hittheriver.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/275482 or at a kiosk. If you would like to know more about the study contact Edna Woodrick (edna.woodrick@gmail.com) or Margaret Layman (margaret.s.layman@gmail.com).

Prayer and the Word go hand in hand. If you want to become a person of prayer, become a person of the Word! When you are immersed in God’s Word, then your prayers will come from a deep well of faith.

In Need?
The River Church has a Deacon Team in place to address the needs of people who are in the midst of difficult circumstances. We invite people to contact us, whether for yourself or for another person at the River. Angels Among Us
There are times in life when we can be in a situation where a meal would be a blessing, such as after giving birth or when dealing with a medical situation. Through our Angels Among Us ministry, you can help people within our church by bringing them a meal. To join, send an email to info@HitTheRiver.com letting us know you’d like to be part of this ministry. When a need arises, you will receive an email asking if you can sign up to bring a meal. If you are in a situation where you could be blessed by a meal, please email us at info@HitTheRiver.com.
“If all that a believer does grows out of faith and is done for the glory of God, then all dualistic distinctions are demolished. There is no higher/lower, sacred/secular, perfect/permitted, contemplative/active or first class/second class. Calling is the premise of Christian existence itself Calling means that everyone, everywhere, and in everything fulfills his or her (secondary) callings in response to God’s (primary) calling. For Luther, the peasant and the merchant— for us, the business person, the teacher, the factory worker, and the television anchor—can do God’s work (or fail to do it) just as much as the minister or missionary.” -Os Guinness on “The Distortion of Spiritual/Secular Dualism of Calling”
I will live out my calling at work.
1. I serve God’s purpose when I work.
“The maid who sweeps her kitchen is doing the will of God just as much as the monk who prays – not because she may sing a Christian hymn as she sweeps but because God loves clean floors. The Christian shoemaker does his Christian duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.” -Martin Luther
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” -Martin Luther King Jr
2. I am uniquely created by God.
“Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus.” -Mother Teresa
3. I have a heart to hear God.
"Our calling in life means that “everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have invested in with a special devotion, dynamism and direction lived out as a response to his summons and service.-Os Guinness, The Call
4. I will pursue insight and wisdom.
1. What do I enjoy?
2. What do I do well?
3. What do others affirm?
4. What do I NOT do well?
5. How close is the alignment of my current job with my identified abilities?
6. What opportunities are there that align with this?
7. Is it something I can try part time while doing my current job?
8. What is the risk/benefit analysis?
9. Is it possible that God has me in my current job to teach me things to know and do in the future?
10. How can I fulfill God’s purposes while in my current job?
