Matthew 17:1-8 NKJV
1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
2 and He was transfigured before them.
His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus,
“Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”
8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
The Transfiguration refers to the remarkable transformation that once took place in the appearance of Jesus.

The Transfiguration took place because God the Father wanted to answer the question, Who is Jesus?
At the Transfiguration, three major events occur:
Ÿ Jesus’ appearance is transformed.
Ÿ Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus -and
Ÿ God the Father speaks to the disciples.
1. Jesus’ APPEARANCE is Transformed

Ÿ God the Father gave the disciples clear visual evidence of who Jesus is.

John 1:1,14 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
2. Moses and Elijah APPEAR with Jesus

Moses and Elijah are both Old Testament prophets who had words from God connecting them to the Messiah.
3. God the Father SPEAKS to the disciples

Colossians 1:15-17 NASB
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Hebrews 1:1-3a NIV
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word…

John 14:6
“I am the way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father EXCEPT by me”

John 8:12
“I Am the Light of the world.”

Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Christ lives in us to shine through us.

Colossians 4:6 NLT
