Chestnut Ridge Church
Down to Earth—Part 2
Though Jesus was the Son of God and Creator of the universe, He chose to enter this world under amazingly modest circumstances—as a baby, born to an ordinary couple, and placed in a trough. The angels even announced His birth to the humble shepherds, not to civic or religious leaders. Although the details are simple, the birth of Jesus is remarkable. Join us for the December series, Down to Earth, as we explore how this extraordinary event has had an impact in all of our lives.

Today's Takeaway: God desires for us to respond to him in humility and in worship.
One should not romanticize the occupation of shepherds. In general shepherds were dishonest and unclean according to the standards of the law. They represent the outcasts and sinners for whom Jesus came. Such outcasts were the first recipients of the good news.–Robert H. Stein
For more than 500 years the nation Israel had been without that visible sign of God’s presence among His people, and now the glory for which Israel had waited was revealed to the shepherds in the field, not to the priests in the temple.–J. Dwight Pentecost
