<< JESUS IS BETTER! >>

Week 8:
"Better Than Animal Sacrifices"
(Hebrews 9:11-10:25)

What is your initial response to the words "animal sacrifice"?

Why would God require the death of anything on our behalf?
A— Our Sin
Why would God require the death of anything on our behalf?
A— Our Sin
• We overestimate our goodness.
• We overlook God's holiness.
• We under appreciate God's love.

Our sin is so egregious to God that to atone for it required the substitutionary death of His righteous and holy Son, Jesus Christ!
ATONEMENT (Shadows, types, and the real thing):
**ANDY JUST SHOW REFERENCE VERSES**
» Adam & Eve (Genesis 3)
Sinned by disobeying God, experienced shame, which God addressed with animal skins.

» Abraham's call to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22)
The substitutionary death of Jesus is clearly in view.

» Exodus from Egypt (Exodus 11 & 12)
The Jews escape from Egyptian slavery/bondage involved a sacrifice or Passover lamb.

» The Old Covenant (Exodus 24)
It was initiated and continued with necessary animal sacrifices.

» The Forerunner's Proclamation
John the Baptist describes Jesus as the "Lamb of God ".
Jesus is Better Than Animal sacrifices because…
1. His efforts are fully sufficient.

3. His efforts lead to a clean conscience.
4. His efforts lead to full assurance of salvation.
We reject the notion that Jesus' death was an accident or the hasty decision of political and religious leaders seeking to retain their power. Instead, we embrace it as God's foreordained plan and means to pay for our sin and secure our salvation.

Have you accepted Jesus' sacrifice on your behalf?
