This week we step back into our Culture Code Series. In this series we ask the question, “What should be the culture of the church?” We have explored the cultural values of love, honour and encouragement. This week we take a look at unity.
The apostle Paul plead with to the church in Corinth to be undivided. He sounded shocked by reports of a divided church. He likened the idea of a church divided into different camps and interest groups to Jesus himself being divided up.
How do you think the Apostle Paul might respond if received a report from the global church today, and what do you think the report would say? What about our own local church?
So What Does Jesus Say? What Does He Pray?
On the night of his arrest, Jesus prayed for you and me. What did he pray for? Not just that we might get along well with each other, but that we would be one as he and the Father are one. The standard of unity that Jesus prayed that we would have within the church is the Trinity itself.

Will we pray for unity? What will our prayer be?
Are We Working For Unity, Or Just Uniformity?
Paul describes the church as a single united entity, one body, made up of many parts. Each part belongs to each other part. But this is far from a picture of uniformity. Each part performs its function for the service of the whole. In western culture we major in independence, we are less equipped than some other cultures to function being dependent on one another. Yet, that is what the culture of the church is meant to be.
How we might step towards truly function as part of one body in the church today? What does this look like amongst our own local church? What would this look like across the whole church?
Will You Make Your Prayer The Same As Jesus'?
