In part 1 we shared these three points from Psalm 5:

1. God will listen to the prayers of the righteous - Vv. 1-2
2. We can wait with expectation for answers - v. 3
3.God abhors wickedness - Vv. 4-6

Now, in Part 2 we will look at the rest of Psalm 5 with these points today:
4. It is God’s mercy and righteousness not mine - Vv. 7-8
5.Those who rebel will not be trusted - Vv. 9-10
6. Blessed are they who love Your Name - Vv. 11-12
4. It is God’s mercy and righteousness not mine - Vv. 7-8

Here we see the wonderful contrast between the wicked David spoke of and those who are the righteous of the Lord. Because of the “great love” of God, those who are reverent before God, worshipful and humble toward God, can come to His temple and bow before the Almighty and worship Him. David calls for the power of God to lead him to become righteous before God, even though he lives in the presence of the evil all around him. You and I can not live a righteous life without the power of the Lord living it in us.

We, like David, live in the presence of evil and we need protection from God and the leadership of the Lord to make sure we too can live righteous before God Himself.

Love is also translated mercy. It fits so well when we need the mercy of God to take away our sin and allow us to be clean before a holy God. Mercy from God keeps us from getting what we deserve. One of the differences between a saved person and a lost person is that God’s grace, mercy and love has been applied to the saved person’s life. Having faith in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection will allow a man or woman to have a relationship with God through the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
Why Indian Found Peace At Once

An Indian and a white man were brought under deep conviction of sin by the same sermon. The Indian was immediately led to rejoice in pardoning mercy. The white man was for a long time in distress, almost to despair. But he was at last brought to a sweet sense of his sins forgiven. Some time after, meeting his red brother, he said to him: "How is it that I should be so long under conviction, when you found peace at once?"

"O brother," replied the Indian, "me tell you! There comes along a rich prince. He proposes to give you a new coat; you look pretty good, it will do a little longer. He then offers me a new coat. I look at my old blanket; I say, this good-for-nothing, and brother, you try to keep your own righteousness, you won't give it up; but I, poor Indian, had none, so I glad at once to receive the righteousness of God—the Lord Jesus Christ."

One of our problems today is that we are too affluent and we have all we need. When God offers us eternal life through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we might hesitate because we have so much and don’t want to give up what we have to receive forgiveness and salvation. Even if we think it is a good idea, we will still have to change and changing is difficult for people who are satisfied with the life they live. People need to see that there is a need to change, that sin needs to be forgiven, that they are lost before they can get saved! A change is needed,
5.Those who rebel will not be trusted - Vv. 9-10

In a day of “fake news” comes a writer that tells us of “fake” Christianity. Stephen E. Broden is the senior pastor at Fair Park Bible Fellowship, tells about a church in Atlanta, Vision Church, “which added to their staff a psychic medium who claimed to commune with the dead. Dr. Lakara Foster teaches that mediumship should be included among the spiritual gifts of the modern church because James 1:17 teaches that “Every good and perfect gift is from above.” This teaching is deception, corruption, and flat-out fake Christianity.” Can you imagine that ever happening here? That almost sounds like end times stuff, something from the false prophet!

David says you can’t trust the unrighteous or anything that comes from their mouths. Not only in the church but truly throughout all of our society today, the world and it’s followers can’t be trusted.

CHS says, “All liars shall have their portion in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. A man may lie without danger of the law of man, but he will not escape the law of God. Liars have short wings, their flight shall soon be over, and they shall fall into the fiery floods of destruction.”
When David said their hearts are filled with destruction, he is right. Satan and all his followers desire to destroy and crush the church of Jesus Christ and everything that is of God and His Word too.

David’s desire is to have God’s destruction come upon those who are guilty of being enemies of the Father. He desires that they have their own wickedness come back upon themselves and that the destruction of their lives come to them in banishment from the Lord’s presence for all time. Now we know that all sinners will forever be banished to hell unless they submit their lives to the Lord for salvation in repentance and receive by faith the truth of the Lord Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. All is lost without the Lord Jesus Christ!

S. H. Thyng, D.D. shared this story, “A wealthy merchant of Philadelphia, who would not listen to the gospel message in health, sent for me at his deathbed. I told him: "I have nothing now to tell you. You are a sinner, and here is a Saviour. Do you feel your guilt, and will you take a Saviour?" "No. There must be some better place than hell for a man of my respectability."— One Thousand Evangelistic Illustrations.
6. Blessed are they who love Your Name - Vv. 11-12

My first thought about these verses is about a bird sanctuary. A place where birds are able to live without threat of others seeking to kill or hurt them. There they can sing with joy and their songs are heard in abundance. Freedom of many different types of birds and other animals are found in those places. One, if you are interested, is in Asheville, called Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary. But when David speaks of a sanctuary or refuge he speaks of a place that all God’s children can find in the Lord that brings safety and joy, a place that is special for the believer. David prays of the blessings that are ours in the refuge of the Lord where He surrounds His children with His love and favor and where they are truly shielded from the dangers of this life. Is this refuge or sanctuary here, while we are on this earth? Yes and no. We are privileged to have a sanctuary in Christ while we live in this old fallen world. But, in that sanctuary we still might have difficulties that God allows but we have His everlasting presence that comfort us and guides us through the difficulties, much like what Psalm 23 talks of, when David says the Shepherd “guides or leads us in paths of righteousness.”

But, know as well. We are confident that we have a forever refuge and sanctuary with the Lord Jesus in His home He has prepared for us to go to when our lives are over here on this fallen world. There we will have no troubles because they will be banished forever in His presence by a loving God.

Again, just to remind each of us, we are in this sanctuary of God not out of our righteousness, for we have none of our own, but because of a Righteous Savior who died for us on a cruel cross and gave us forgiveness of our sins and rose from the dead to make it possible to have the eternal life which is described by God Himself in the Scriptures as heaven.

Wow! What a prayer from King David. This whole prayer from start to finish is powerful and instructive for us who believe in the Lord Jesus. We know He hears our prayers and will answer them, not because we are good or righteous but because we are His children! We also know He takes no delight in evil and will eventually punish evil doers when their time comes. But we also know that those who follow Him will one day be rewarded in being with Him for eternity.

So my dear friends, please see your great benefits in the Lord and pray to our Heavenly Father and seek His face for the needs of your life. Also call on Him when things are rough and life is hard, He knows that we need Him and He will respond with the mercy and grace of a great a tender God.

For those who do not have a personal relationship with God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, He desires one with you. Receive Jesus His Son as your personal Savior and Lord by repenting of your sins and turning to Him for new life and be forever changed by grace!

Come now to pray and seek His face and grace.

Invitation

Dear friend if you are reading this by way of the internet please know that you are loved and cared for. If you have no relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then I invite you to trust Him by faith and receive Him as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sin of everyone in the world that they may have eternal life. All of us have sinned and all are guilty before Almighty God who made us to have fellowship with Him. But sin broke that ability to have a relationship and Jesus has restored the possibility to know God personally through His sacrifice. Please know that if you will seek God and turn from your sin and pray He will respond with His love and give to you a personal relationship through your belief in His Son and the sacrifice He made just for you. He will call for a change in your life too. He wants you to follow Him, not the world, not your own desires, but to follow Jesus. That brings a life change when you turn from sin and self and by faith believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. There is no Savior without Him being Lord of your life. Your willingness to change by following Him daily in your life will be the proof of your faith. When life throws its curves your way and you have found yourself broken by others or by the world let us introduce you to the only One who can help you…Jesus!
