BROKENNESS: The Hebrew word, broken, of Psalm 31:12 means “to lose oneself, by implication to perish!”
To become truly a man of God you have to reach a breaking point and then choose to be broken. Some men choose to harden
their hearts.
I. The Hammer is a fit instrument to break rocks and beat stones in pieces.
II. A Hammer can do nothing of itself without the hand that holds and wields it.
Brokenness, in His eyes, is to be broken, crushed, and torn in spirit over sin.
III. The Bible, God’s hammer, has an effect on the object it hits.
Conclusion:
The late Jamie Buckingham wrote a really cleverly-titled book: The Truth Will Set You Free, But First It Will Make You Miserable.
True brokenness is a tool by which God brings His wandering sheep back into His loving arms.
