PRAYER FOCUS:

MISSIONS: Pray for John, Charity & Amos Trotter, missionaries/church planters in Pittsburgh. We are writing them today. Cash in the envelope is always a fun surprise.
COMMUNITY: Pray for people in your world that are moving into a season of transition: school to summer, job transitions, moving, loss of a loved one, diagnosis, relationship change. Change surrounds us. Pray that your eyes are opened, and you are prepared and equipped to care, listen and help.
CHURCH: Pray for moms this week. Happy Mother’s Day!
First Dialogue Question:

How do you know what to do?
Internally process:

How did Jesus know what to do?
Remember the greatest commandments: love God and love people

Matthew 22:34-40

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Pray often

Luke 5:15-16

15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Build a firm foundation by doing what Jesus says

Matthew 7:24-27

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Know there is a cost to following Jesus

Luke 14:31-33

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
Serve others humbly

Matthew 23:11-12

11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Final Dialogue Question:

What do you see happening as Jesus answers this prayer?

God, I want to get better at knowing what to do. Amen.
TAKE IT DEEPER QUESTIONS:

Read 1 Corinthians 13.
How has humanity changed in the last 100 years?
What causes beliefs and ideologies to change?
What causes relationships to grow?
How do you show love?
How do you feel love?
Why do people invest time or money?
