About Eastwood Tulsa
Believe, Belong & Be Loved.
At Eastwood Tulsa, we believe church is the perfect place for those three powerful things. We come together to be reminded of the incredible truths of God’s Word, which we believe wholeheartedly.

In classes, ministries, outreaches, and small groups, we build close, transformative relationships that give us a strong sense of belonging to God and to the body of Christ. And in corporate worship, we experience God’s amazing presence, hear Him speak to our hearts, and are constantly reminded of how deeply, powerfully, and unconditionally loved we are.

I am so thankful today for my mom and my wife, the mother of our children. Thank you, God, for your great gifts to me. Moms, we honor you today and thank God for you!
If you listened to our recent podcast, Jeremy and I talked about the Spirit-filled family and what it means for family members to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. What does it mean for a mom, a dad, a husband to walk in the Spirit? What does that look like?
How about this. You just finished a long day at work. You are tired, hungry, and you just want to kick back, eat and relax. You could be a working mom or dad. What does it look like if you are truly filled with the Spirit and walking in the Spirit?
You serve. You set aside your needs. You consider your family’s needs, at that moment, more important than your own. The Spirit of God that lives in you does that through you if you are filled with Jesus’ presence. The Spirit of God works through you as a servant to the other - whoever that may be; husband, wife, children. Selfishness is a fruit of the flesh. My needs need to be met. Why doesn’t my husband meet my needs? Why doesn’t my wife give me some space, I just got home from work!
It is God’s power working through you. He promises it to us. You already have everything that you need for a Spirit-filled family. If you’ve been born again, God has given you His Spirit. We really don’t lack anything.
My mom is with the Lord now. I still miss her. Many of you feel the same way. The thing that stands out to me about moms is their selflessness. They are like Jesus in this respect. Especially if they have small children. There is so much to do that moms often put their own needs on hold. Jesus even called His disciples ‘little children’ (John 13:33). Jesus didn’t come to be served.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Mark 10:45 (NKJV)
This is Mother’s Day, but this message is not just for moms; it is for the whole family. It is for all of us today.
In this passage, we see the exhortation of Paul to the Philippians. Moms, I see you in this passage. For all of us, we can see a clear picture of what it means to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. In verses 1-2.

Philippians 2:1-2
1. Consolation in Christ…coming along side of those who are hurting
2. Comfort of Love…encouraging those who are down
3. Fellowship of the Spirit…remaining connected to others in love
4. Affection and Mercy…deep, inner feelings of love for others
5. Like-minded…harmony, unity of mind
6. Same love…God’s love for one another
7. Of one accord…so connected that you are of the same soul
8. One mind…the same opinion or attitude
Wow, that is quite a list of positive, powerful traits for God’s Church and a Spirit-filled believer! In Philippians 2:3-4 we see a practical application of how to pray for God’s Spirit to fill us and control us.
The character of God is often on display in a woman, mom, or anyone filled with and walking in the Spirit.

Here is our takeaway:
1. Selfishness is a sign that I am in control, not the Spirit of God. V3
2. Drawing attention to oneself takes the glory away from God and forfeits the power of the Spirit. V3
3. Humility considers others as superior to oneself. V3
4. The Holy Spirit balances our concern for ourselves with that of other people. V4

No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. 1 Corinthians 10:24 (NIV)

Don’t forget that these verses introduce the incarnation. God becoming man. Jesus humbling Himself and coming into our experience. God revealed Himself through Jesus. When you look at Jesus Christ, you see God, His character, love, and compassion for others. God wants to reveal Himself through you and me. In a previous message, we reminded ourselves that we are the light of the world.

It’s trite but true: You may be the only Bible people are reading. Moms, thank you for letting us see the love of the Father in you! Thank you for your selfless service to your family. Thank you for everything you do that goes unnoticed. We know that you are not perfect, but you are perfect to us! We love you!

Ministry time:
Wherever you are right now, take a moment to thank God for the mom he gave you. If she is here today go to her and give her a hug. Call her before the day is over and thank her for being your mom. If she is with the Lord, silently thank God for His gift of a mom to you.

If you’ve not been the mom you know you should be, ask God to fill you with His Spirit and work in you from this day forward.
