Mothers are occupied with keeping and sustaining us from one generation to the next. But how often do we recognise the efforts and successes of those mothers around us?

Do you see being a mother as a frontline ministry, or just a background endeavour?
"the closer you get to home the less intriguing the work of sacrifice seems"
- Rachel Jankovic, 'Motherhood'
It is easy to become discouraged when motherhood doesn't seem to be paying the same dividends as what we consider the more 'intriguing' ministry opportunities.

Do you feel motherhood is sometimes the 'poor cousin' of other things you could be doing with your life? Do you treat it that way in your life or the lives of others?
Where does your beauty come from? How about your charm? Your wit? Your intellect?

What good is a beautiful vase if it won't hold life bringing water?
20% of households in Yass are occupied by a single person. Do we consider that single women cannot be mothers in their current situation?

Is motherhood only provable via genetic testing? Or is wider ranging, and more that just a biological relation?
Society has often considered motherhood a passive endeavour. One that is only undertaken as a part time, or ancillary, role.

But recently, studies have shown that love is most often spelt 'T I M E'.

How purposed are you in being proactive in being a mother, or in supporting those you love in actively pursuing motherhood?
Motherhood is hard... No two ways about it.

Are you doing it on your own? Or are you learning from those who are around you now, and also those who have come before you?

How can we learn from others? And how can we be open to assistance from the 'mothers' in our community? How can you be a daughter, or encourage those you love to engage with their spiritual mothers?

Life Group Discussion Questions Below

As our life groups gather this week, we have attached our reference verse and some questions to prompt a deeper discussion and search into this week's topic.

If you are not currently part of a life group, and would like to join a small group of like minded people in fellowship and connection during the week, please contact Nick on 0417472474 to register your interest.
Motherhood is not only the realm of mothers. We need to recognise not only the power of this role, but encourage and support them in growing and investing into others as spiritual mothers.
1. Do you feel that you were raised with a healthy expectation of motherhood?
2. What value do you place on the mothers (both biological and spiritual) in your life?
3. Do we equate intrigue with value in ministry?
4. Why do we gravitate towards that which is intriguing over that which is valuable?
5. How can we take steps towards encouraging and developing healthy expressions of motherhood in our life, our Church, and our wider community?

There may be people in your group who have been badly wounded by figures they may have regarded as Mothers. There may also be some people for whom the concept of motherhood raises very painful memories. Take some time to pray for one another for healing and forgiveness of these relationships.

You may wish to discuss if this life group can become a place of confession. This is a decision that each group will need to make together.
