Text: Genesis 5-10

Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our everyday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors.

In Genesis chapters 5 through 10 we encounter the story of Noah. Noah lived at a time when the world grew increasingly evil. In the account of Noah’s life, we witness the deepening corruption of sin as well as the continued faithfulness of God. Despite humanity’s wayward rebellion, God remembers Noah. And he launches a plan to save him and his family.

This Sunday, we talked about Noah and the flood. When did you first hear the story of Noah? How was it presented to you?

READ GENESIS 6:8. This verse tells us that Noah found grace in God's eyes. What do you think that means?

What circumstances, influences, or commitments in your life make it challenging to follow God’s instructions?

Think about Noah’s persistence in obeying God. Could you stick with a task God gave you if people regularly criticized it? Why or why not?

Read Genesis 6:5-8 and 1 Timothy 1:15. God’s judgment is often hard for us to consider. Spend a few minutes discussing how God’s judgment and mercy can co-exist. How does Jesus help us see this reality more clearly?

PRAY. Thank God for His enduring faithfulness and ask Him for a fresh work of grace in your life to pursue His purposes, even when your circumstances and the voices in your life say the opposite.

>> Life comes through walking with God.
>> There is a limit to his patience
"Violence thrives today, secretly nourished by the belief that God refuses to take the sword…It takes the quiet of a suburb for the birth of the thesis that human nonviolence is a result of a God who refuses to judge. In a scorched land–soaked in the blood of the innocent, the idea will invariably die…if God were NOT angry at injustice and deception and did NOT make a final end of violence, that God would not be worthy of our worship."
