SUMMER SCHOOL - PART 6 [July 9/10, 2016] Cameron Cheke

Follow Jesus and experience LIFE!
‘By gaining the world, (by chasing after the world), do we gain LIFE? ‘
How they were misled:

1. Over time, the Law of Moses was given more authority and purpose than God had intended to have. In the eyes of the people, it become a means of being RIGHT before God by obeying a set list, instead of its original purpose to show us our great need for a savior, a Messiah who would come to free us from Sin.

2. Also, because of the political climate of the day, and the suffering they endured, the crowds had been taught by the religious authority, that the Messiah, would come give them freedom from earthly tyranny, currently the Roman Empire, so they could worship God as a nation freely. They had a desire to be free.
And this was Jesus mission for them as disciples, as he was willing to fight for us at any cost, even death, then to be a disciple of Jesus really means to be willing to do the same.
To Deny yourself is to say NO to the authority of our sin nature over the decisions in our lives.
‘We want to do what God wants us to do and be who He wants us to be.’
To ‘carry your cross’ is to Place God’s authority over the authority of our SIN NATURE, no matter the cost.

This is the crux of what Jesus wanted to help the disciples understand...they were EXPECTING riches, a kingdom, positions, and power NOW on this earth, and Jesus is saying, that is not what I came for, that is NOT the freedom I am willing to sacrifice everything for.

Jesus, the rightful King, stepped out of heaven, where he had all authority and power and glory, and became God in flesh, to become a servant of men, even unto death!!
To ‘Carry your cross’ is to be willing to choose Gods way over your way, no matter the cost.
To know and be known by God, and to love and be loved by God is LIFE. It was what we were made for!

‘This World and what it offers is NOT worth your LIFE apart from God. BUT A LIFE following after Jesus is WORTH the cost.’
> ASK him what he wants for you
> SEEK out the answer through persistent prayer and faith
> And KNOCK, if he leads you to take a step of FAITH, be obedient and take it, if he opens a door walk through it, if he shows you a different path, step on it
Follow Jesus and experience LIFE.
Discussion Questions:

1. Why does it seem so easy to be distracted by worldly ventures?

2. Do you think we may be unaware of the power that is very active behind the world’s desires?

3. What religious task has always made you feel guilty if you were unable to consistently do it?

4. How does God view religious rules in light of knowing who Jesus was and came to do?The end result of ‘religious actions’ should be produced from an inwardly motivated heart to please God.

5. Where have you tried to ‘BE’ religious, instead of spending time in the presence of Jesus and allowing his love to move you to action?

6. What heavy weight, level of control, is keeping you from coming to Jesus and experiencing LIFE?

7. Read Matt 11:28-30 and ask Jesus to show you the next step he wants to help you take.
