Text: Genesis 3:14-24

Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our everyday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors.

SCRIPTURE PASSAGE SUMMARY: In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve violate God’s design. The effects of their actions are felt immediately. No longer does openness and intimacy characterize their relationships. Instead, shame and hiding take root. But Genesis 3 isn’t merely about Adam and Eve. It’s about us. And how our attempts to be more only make us less.

If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be? Why?

READ Genesis 3:1-2. Adam and Eve’s sin begins with deception. Where in your life are you tempted to wonder, “Did God really say?”

In Genesis 3, Eve and Adam ignore God’s instruction, and decide for themselves that eating forbidden fruit is no big deal. They say “no” to God and “yes” to themselves. Talk about a time when you’ve said “no” to God. What happened?

Sin leads to shame. It causes us to hide. How do we hide ourselves from God and from others who want what’s best for us?

READ Genesis 3:21. In the covering of Adam and Eve, we see God's clear love for them, in spite of their disobedience. How have you experienced God's love in moments where you have blown it?

Pray that God would lead humanity to see their need for Jesus due to the brokenness in our world. Also pray that the Lord would give us boldness to proclaim the truth of the Gospel to family, friends, and coworker in the midst of our fallen world.
