I AM the Resurrection and the Life: God Promises Eternal Life
John 11:25 NLT
A. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were friends of Jesus…
John 11:5 NIV
1. Lazarus became very sick and they sent word to Jesus that His friend was sick.
John 11:3 NLT
2. But Jesus didn’t come and gave a different response.
John 11:4 NLT
3. Instead of rushing to the side of Lazarus, He stayed several days.
John 11:6 NLT
4. When warned by the disciples of the danger in where He was headed, Jesus reminded them that His Light will keep them from stumbling.
John 11:9 NLT
B. Jesus brought comfort to Mary and Martha…
John 11:19 NLT
1. Martha went out to meet Jesus first. She first shared her disappointment, but then she shared her faith.
John 11:21-22 NIV
Later, when Mary was called to be with Jesus, Mary’s response was the same.
John 11:32 NLT
And even later, the crowd had the same response!
John 11:37 NLT
2. Jesus’ response to Martha did not make sense to her.

3. Martha shared her belief in the resurrection.

4. Jesus made a proclamation that changed everything!
John 11:25-26 NLT
Jesus said, “I Am the resurrection!” It is not an event, but a person!
Eternal life is not an abstract thought but a personal relationship!
Victory over death is a present reality!
C. Jesus came to reach down to us and to bring us eternal life…
John 1:14 NLT
1. Jesus loved us that much that He gave His life for us.
John 3:16 NLT
2. He gave His life for us and the only way for us to have that eternal life is to come into a relationship with Him.
John 17:3 NLT
3. When we have Jesus in our lives, we have the promise of eternal life with Him.
1 John 5:11-12 NLT
4. And this is what He promised…eternal life!
1 John 2:25 NLT
God’s timing may not be your timing…But God’s timing is perfect!
His delays are not denials. Neither death nor time are obstacles to Jesus! You can trust Him!
His methods may not be your methods…But God’s ways are perfect! You can trust Him!
He can handle your honesty! When you feel disappointed, discouraged, and depressed…be honest with God! And then wait on Him! You can trust Him!
God is working to bring glory to Himself and eternal life to you! You can trust Him!
Because He lives…we live! Because He is life...we have life eternally!
D. Jesus offers us that eternal life in a simple plan for all to believe…
1. Admit that you are a sinner.
Romans 3:23 NLT
2. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins.
Romans 10:10-11 NLT
3. Confess your sins to Jesus and be willing to turn from your sins in repentance.
Romans 10:9 NLT
4. Decide to receive Him into your heart as Lord and Savior.
John 1:12 NLT
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen
