Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our everyday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors.

SCRIPTURE SUMMARY: In Genesis 2:18-24 we see that it is not good for human beings to be isolated and alone. We also see that God created marriage and established boundaries for sexual intimacy.

There are many influences that shape our views of sex, sexuality, and marriage. Who or what have been key shaping influences in your life? Your parents? Our culture? Your teenage friends? Others?

How do you think views on marriage have changed in our society over the past 10 years? What do you think led to these changes?

Read Genesis 2:20-24. Looking at this text, why do think God created marriage?

If someone younger asked you for one piece of advice about sex, what would you tell them? What would you tell them about the purpose of sex?

Why do you think that God limits sexual intimacy to the confines of marriage?

What does it look like for you to embrace God’s design for sexuality?

Pray that the Lord would allow your group to develop deep community with one another. Also pray that the Lord would give you wisdom to maintain and deepen the close relationships (spouse, family, friends, and neighbors) in your life. In addition, pray that the Lord would strengthen the marriages at our church by his power.
Title: Male and Female He Created Them: Part 2
Scripture: Genesis 1:26-28, 2:18-25
Speaker: Reid Kapple,

>> There is more to sex than sex
“The reference to physical unity was intended to express a joyous unity on all other levels as well - including mind, emotion, and spirit. Scripture offers a stunningly high view of physical union as a union of whole persons across all dimensions.” -Nancy Pearcey, Love Thy Body
>> Sex is God’s idea...But it’s not his best idea
“Every soul reverberates with the echoes of this Edenic ache for friendship. It’s an ancient and primal longing. We are inescapably the creation week moves along, the whole creation is not pronounced ‘very good’ until God addresses the one thing that is not good - Adam’s isolation. This shows us that a world without friendship is not complete; it’s not yet very good.” - Drew Hunter, Made for Friendship
"It’s not too much truth but too little love that’s driving gay and straight people away from the bride of Christ...The fact is, most LGBTQ people I know didn’t leave the church because their behavior wasn’t affirmed...It was because their humanity wasn’t affirmed.” - Preston Sprinkle, People To Be Loved
>> Sex is disintegrated
- For the wrong purpose
- With the wrong person

"When we rip sex out of its divinely designed relational context — we hurt ourselves...Sexual sin is like no other sin because your sexuality bridges body and soul...When you sin sexually, you literally sin against your true self...Sexual sin eventually equates to self-inflicted pain. [Which is why] Sex is for married people. Not because God is against sex, but because God is for YOU.” -Andy Stanley
>> Sex is disintegrated...But sex will not define us
“People are trying to live out a worldview that does not fit who they really are. Because humans are created in God’s image, the secular view will never quite match their actual experience...As a result, in practice, non-Christians will always run into some point of contradiction between their secular worldview and their real-life experience.” - Nancy Pearcey, Love Thy Body
