The frustration of wanting results without the routine...
THE PRAYER FOR KNOWING GOD’S WILL

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you…”

THE PROMISE OF KNOWING GOD’S WILL
“asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding”

Filled = a point of completion; domination
“We are under the control of whatever fills us.”

You cannot live what you have not learned.

The expectation of God’s will is always accompanied by the enablement of God’s supply.
THE PURPOSE OF KNOWING GOD’S WILL - “so as to”

1. A CHRIST-HONORING LIFE
“Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him.”
2. A FRUITFUL LIFE
“Bearing fruit in every good work.”

3. AN INTIMATE LIFE
“and increasing in the knowledge of God;”

4. A STRONGER LIFE
“being strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;”

5. A THANKFUL LIFE
“giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.”
A key to gratitude is knowing that “the scoreboard is in heaven” and the scorekeeper is always good, perfect, and just.
Daily pursuit of God’s supernatural but “ordinary will” enables us for participation in God’s supernatural and “extraordinary will.”
APPLICATION: Five routines that produce results:

• Relish God’s Word
• Request God’s provision
• Rely on God’s Spirit
• Remember God’s works
• Recognize among God’s people

“Growth requires an open heart and a receptive mind to every overture of the Holy Spirit.” Bruce Demarest
This week I will…
• Pray Colossians 1:9–12 for one specific person in my life. Let them know I am praying for them, and check back in the coming weeks to see how the Lord has answered.

• Think about what it means to be "filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom." Meditate on the biblical description of wisdom in James 3:17–18, and ask God to help me do His will in connection with each of these descriptions. Consider one specific relationship where I want to practice His revealed will.

• Memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:18 with a goal of obeying God’s will by embracing a new level of gratitude in all things.
