Ladies may not preach - William Booth Salvation Army “some of my best men, where women”
We are busy with our sermon series "lie to me" and, on the contrary, finish the series tonight, where Petrich sermons on "God is evil". We invite you to come and listen to it. We really enjoyed this series to prepare and share the truth. The purpose of this was / is so that we not only believe what anyone is saying, but that we will see the truth and may need to delve deeper from Scripture, and it is that truth that sets us free.
a short story: My mom and dad had their firstborn, a little girl who was my sister and then my mom struggled terribly to get pregnant again. At one point she cried just like Hanna before the Lord and asked for another baby and when HE allows her to have another baby, she will give that baby for ministry. Well not long after, my mother was pregnant, and they were convinced that it would be a boy because of the promise. How lucky they were that they didn't find me as a child!!! From childhood, my life has been trying to steal, not only physically but also spiritually, but God's plans remain. I have always known that I was called to ministry and born of a promise and that promise to this day is my mission and absolute life's purpose - and for that reason it is great for me to share what I came across, I was worried at one point that I should rather look for other work !!
John McArthur was asked to say a little about Beth Moore and his sentence was as follows: “go Home Beth, there is no case that can be Biblically made for a woman preacher. Period, paragraph end of discussion”
He bases his comments on:
1 Tim 2:12 But I will not allow a woman to teach, nor to rule over the man: but she shall hold her peace.
Here are 3 main thoughts that stand out here
1) The woman is not allowed to teach
2) Do not rule over the man
3) She needs to keep quiet.
We can do many things but keep quiet ????
Certain theologians have reflected and argued and then described these 3 points, in the situation around the church and the arguments are as follows:
1) Women may teach as long as they are among other women or children
2) Ladies are not allowed to rule over men, Paul then states that Adam was created before Eve, so ladies cannot hold office if Pastor no longer has her own congregation because then she has authority over the man.
3) She must keep quiet and be submissive to her husband. He is the head of her, so if anything has to happen or be said, it has to be done by the man.
Now that any text we read we must first understand in context and by that I do not mean, let's look for the loophole, here that applies to us and which does not apply.
Wilson & Moore's wise words: Our job as messengers of the gospel is to speak in whatever language the culture is speaking.
The context of 1 Timothy 2 is the following:
1) In the background of 1 Timothy, it was a matter of order that women should be silent in the church. In their time, they were angry and because of a lot of women prophetesses who always wanted to say something in the name of prophecy, Paul said they should be quiet and not want to take authority over the man and basically take over the service.
2) When one also looks in depth at the word "the woman", in Greek origin it is very important to pay attention to a singular term and a lot of research showing that Paul is talking about a specific woman and therefore he speaks of "the woman" and not "women" (generalization and actually speaks of all women). Paul also represents the woman who taught heresy and led other women to other teachings and that she did dominate her husband, which Paul then opposes.
Paul wants the unknown woman to be taught. The Greek construction presupposes an instruction for teaching which she had to receive in humility and silence. Paul also does not mention that she is not allowed to teach in the church, as most translations and theologians read in the text; he forbids her to teach as a whole. Thus, and by implication, all other women who have admitted to her fallacies (I Tim. 5: 11-16) must take on the role of a disciple who is humble and in her place, just like a male student. whether disciples were also expected.
3) Does Paul prohibit teaching by women? No, after all, Timothy received his own faith formation with mother and grandmother. Teaching is not an exclusive man thing in the church. According to Acts 18, the church in Ephesus was already exposed to at least one woman's good teachings. We read another example in:
Philippians 4: 2 – 3 (TPT)
2And I plead with Euodia and Syntyche to settle their disagreement and be restored with one mind in our Lord. 3I would like my dear friend and burden-bearer to help resolve this issue, for both women have diligently labored with me for the prize and helped in spreading the revelation of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers. All of their names are written in the Book of Life.
4) In the Corinthian church, Paul also called men to silence who did not convey the right message.
5) So, 1 Timothy is about a local heresy that was maintained by an influential woman and now had to be stopped. That woman must be quiet and receive instruction. Otherwise, she falls into the trap of Eve who did not know her place and succumbed to sin.
Paul strongly puts down his statement:
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
I also think of the following scenario created for us in the Bible where Jesus was already crucified. It was the women who got the herbs and perfume right to embalm Jesus. When they came to the tomb and saw that the tomb was open, they went in and did not see the body.
Luke 24:10
It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other woman that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
The apostles hid and were afraid of their lives. It was the women who went to look and told him HE LIVES !!!!
Jesus instructs the disciples to wait in the upper room for the promise to be poured out. There is Jesus' mother Mary, as well as other women and receive the promise to:
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Nowhere was any distinction made that only the men may be the witnesses. Nowhere has it been mentioned that ladies are not given the same privileges and ministries as men.
On the contrary, Jesus commands ALL:
Preach the Gospel, Raise the dead, heal the sick, cast out demons.
So my question is: What about women who make an impact where they find themselves; sharing the story of Jesus, with men and women at work? They may not be on a pulpit in the church, but does that make them less of a minister? Is the story that they share, their belief or testimony less important because they don't give it in church?
So the question is not whether or not ladies or women may preach, the question is what do each of us do with the instruction Jesus gave us?
I told my story at the beginning how the Lord called me, as did many other women, you can think for a moment what the Bible and our History would look like without the ministry of women, strong women.
