The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel. Mark 1:15
Knowledge is information we have acquired. It does not necessarily demand action.
Beliefs flow from knowledge but are things we hold to be vitally true to the point we are prepared to take action or live on the basis of them.
Pisteuo (Greek) – to be persuaded of, to credit, place confidence in; to entrust a thing to one.
Jesus called us to believe the gospel, not just to have knowledge about the gospel.
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save Him? James 2:14
Our obedience to Jesus is our salvation. It is in our doing what Jesus commands that we enter into and experience the saved life.
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe(obey) all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
A disciple is defined by loyalty and a growing practice of obedience to Jesus not just a growing knowledge of his teachings.
He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. John 3:36. Jesus equates the word believe with the word obey.
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. John 6:47
Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.” John 6:68
How do we enter and live life in the kingdom of God? In the light of the gospel Jesus proclaimed about the kingdom of God, we can come to see and think correctly about the darkness of sin and are compelled to turn (repent) from it in order to trust and obey (believe) Jesus.
We repent because we believe. We believe and so we repent.
Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses [his life] will preserve it. Luke 17:33
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love. John 15:10
