Jesus invites us, like the disciples, to move our kingdoms (thoughts, desires, plans, actions) into God's kingdom (thoughts, desires, plans, actions). How did the disciples' lives change when they started to follow Jesus? Why is this good news? Confess: Jesus, your invitation to join God's kingdom is truly the best thing I could ever accept and do in life.
You trust the authority of experts to tell you how life and things work. You shape your life (kingdom) around this. How does Jesus show his authority in these verses? How did Jesus' authority help people's lives find health and wholeness? Confess: Jesus, I trust you are the expert on every single thing in my life because you made the world. Help me to listen and trust what you say.
Power is the ability to accomplish something. What can your personal power do? What can it not do? What did the power of Jesus do? Ask God one thing he wants to do in your life? Do you believe that his power can help you accept and do it? Confess: Jesus, you have all power. I believe your power can help me do what is good and right.
Our deepest need is to rejoin the relationship (dance) that God made us for. What was the paralyzed man's deepest need? Why? Where are areas you have shame or regret in your life? Confess: Jesus, I am sorry for the wrong in my life, I believe you can and will forgive me. Thank you for inviting me back into the dance with God!
Reflect and write: What is the goal of your job? What is the goal of your family? What is the goal of your future? What would make your life perfect? We organize our lives (kingdoms) around our deepest answers to these questions. Confess: "Lord, I was made for (a relationship with) You. So my soul is restless until is finds its rest in You." Saint Augustine
