When Everything Falls Apart | Love Squared
No matter how hard we try, we can’t always keep setbacks and struggles at bay. And sometimes, just when we thought we had this whole “life” thing figured out…everything falls apart. That’s how the first followers of Jesus must have felt when he was arrested and crucified. But Jesus knew everything that was coming…and before it happened, he taught his followers a series of crucial lessons about living with hope and courage when everything falls apart.

Mission Hills is a church family—a family who wants to extend to you the same love, hope, and joy that we have received. We know that we cannot be all things to all people. But we do want to be one thing to all people. We want to be the place where anyone, of any age, of any level of spiritual maturity, of any economic class, of any ethnicity, of any church background—or no church background—can meet God in a way that transforms their life…forever!

If you are a first time guest, we would love to meet you! Stop by the Welcome Center for a free gift!

What we see as the end of something great is often the start of something greater...if we can leave it in God's hands.
It’s hard to tell where the Father stops and Jesus starts.
Obedience is the truest measure of Christian maturity.
Jesus is focusing on two commands: love God and love others.
"A new command I give you: Love one another." (John 13:34)
"...you shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Leviticus 19:18)
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. (John 14:16-17a)
Loving God and loving others is the truest measure of Christian maturity.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:17b)
It's hard to tell where Jesus ends and the Holy Spirit begins.
Every other command in the Bible shapes our love.
It’s possible to obey every other command in the Bible and not really love God or others.
Because of the Holy Spirit working in us, it's going to be hard to tell where Jesus ends and his followers begin.
"...a Pharisee...as for righteousness based on the law, faultless." (Philippians 3:5-6)
The Holy Spirit will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
The Holy Spirit will continue Jesus’ work of awakening us to life as God always meant it to be.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. (John 14:27a)
Because they are one, it’s almost impossible to tell where the Father ends and Jesus begins.
Because they are one, it’s almost impossible to tell where Jesus ends and the Holy Spirit begins.
Because of the Holy Spirit in them, it should be almost impossible to tell where Jesus ends and his followers begin.
Jesus is going to show himself to the world...through us!
Jesus’ peace isn’t the absence the conflict...it’s the ability to face conflict with confidence.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27b)
Jesus is modeling for us the trust he's asking from us.
Set your sails towards loving God and loving others...He'll take care of the rest.
Questions:

1. What is one command of God that I have the hardest time obeying?

2. What will I do to set my sails in the right direction this week?

Hope Groups | GriefShare + DivorceCare

At times every one of us will deal with loss, fear, or uncertainty; it’s part of our journey in life. If you're grieving the loss of a loved one, or struggling with the pain of a divorce, we have GriefShare and DivorceCare groups starting soon. These support groups are designed to walk alongside people at Mission Hills and in our community who are hurting, to equip them with tools to deal with struggles – tools to increase their faith, find hope and strength, and give them joy in the journey. More information and registration is available online.
