Chestnut Ridge Church
Engage—Part 3
As each new year begins, we often evaluate the past in order to make changes for a better future. During this five-week series we will explore what we’re all about, focus on our vision as a church, and how you can be a part of that. We can make significant progress in the new year-—together.

Engage [Part 3]—Tim Haring

Problem: We don’t know what to do with people who believe differently than we do.
Solution: “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity (or love).”—St. Augustine, often quoted by John Wesley
Catalysts for growth:
1. Practical teaching (God’s word applied to our lives)
2. Private Disciplines (such as a quiet time)
3. Personal Ministry (we grow as we serve)
4. Providential Relationships (God uses other people in our lives)
5. Pivotal Circumstances. (defining moments)
Our vision: To be an inviting church that leads people into a growing relationship with God and others.
“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity (love).” —St. Augustine, quoted by John Wesley
We believe these are important and major things:
1. God
2. Jesus Christ
3. Holy Spirit
4. The Bible
5. Salvation
6. Assurance
7. The Resurrection of the Dead
How we view beliefs:
1. Cardinal doctrines—The Gospel and what is essential for salvation
2. Basic teachings of the Christian faith
3. Convictions and practices in a church or group of churches
4. Personal beliefs or convictions on various doctrines
5. Divisive issues that the Bible spends little to no time talking about, so we don’t either
