Integrity: When your behavior matches your beliefs.
Ethos
1. Honor
2. Purity
3. Loyalty
4. Integrity
Proverbs 11:3
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. (NIV)
Psalms 15:1-5
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken. (NIV)
Benefits of Integrity
1. You can walk closely with God.
2. You have a built in guide.
3. You have a constant peace in your heart.
4. You gain trust, respect, honor and influence.
Opposite of integrity is a hypocrite.
Matthew 23:25-26
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.” (NIV)
Matthew 23:28
“In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” (NIV)
What’s Your Integrity Worth?
• Lying on a resume to get a job?
• Overbill, cut corners?
• Embezzling from work?
• Exaggerating to be liked?
• Falsifying an expense report?
• Cheat to get a better grade?
• Shop and hide?
• Porn?
What is your integrity worth?
Not just what you say, but what does your life say that it’s worth?
Job 27:5-6
I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity. I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live. (NIV)
What if you don’t have integrity?
• Get to know Jesus
• Apologize
• Start doing what is right
Matthew 5:37
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. (NIV)
