Good News
He is a Mighty God
Isaiah 9:6-7
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor,[d] Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!”

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NLT)
Almighty God: El Gibbor

El = God
Gibbor = strong, powerful, mighty, champion, hero
The baby born in the manger is The Great Hero God

Because Jesus is our Hero God…

1. He has power to TRANSFORM our situations.

“Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.”

Romans 6:14 (NLT)

“Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.”

Romans 6:5-6 & 9 (NLT)
2. He has power to defeat our enemy.

“And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike[b] your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Genesis 3:15 (NLT)

“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed[d] the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

Colossians 2:14-15 (NLT)

“the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Revelation 20:10 (NLT)
3. He is worthy of our Worship.

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. 4 This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”

Hebrews 1:1-4 (NLT)
“God, if He is merely my accomplice, had betrayed me. If on the other hand, He was God, He had freed me.”

Elisabeth Elliot
