Matthew 7:24-27
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Matthew 7:28-29
“And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.”

What kind of authority did Jesus possess?

In Matthew 9:6-8, Jesus said that He had authority on earth to forgive sins.

In Mark 1:27 he had authority over unclean spirits.

In John 1:12 we learn that He had the authority to save.

In John 5:27 we are told that He has authority to judge all men.

In John 10:18 we find that He has the authority to lay down His life and take it back up again. That is, He has the authority over life and death.

In John 17:2 He has authority over all mankind.

In Matthew 28:18-20 He has all authority.

Matthew 28:18-20
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ ”

John 7:16
“So Jesus answered them, ‘My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.’ ”

How do we Know Jesus is God?

John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:18
“No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”

John 20:28
“Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ ”

Romans 9:5
“To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.”

Titus 2:13
“…waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Hebrews 1:8
“But of the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.’ ”

2 Peter 1:1
“Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

What did Jesus say about Himself?

1. Jesus stated that he is eternal.

John 8:57-58
“So the Jews said to him, ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’ ”

Revelation 22:13
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Revelation 1:8
“ ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’ ”

2. Jesus stated that he is from Heaven.

John 6:33-35
“ ‘For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ They said to him, ‘Sir, give us this bread always.’ Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’ ”

3. Jesus stated that he is more than a good man.

Mark 10:17-18
“And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.’ ”

4. Jesus stated that he is sinless.

John 8:46
“Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?”

John 8:29
“And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”

Hebrews 4:15
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

5. Jesus said that he could forgive sin.

Mark 2:5-7
“And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’ Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, ‘Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’ ”

6. Jesus used the expression “Son of Man” to describe himself which is rooted in Daniel 7:13-14 600 years before Jesus.

“Son of Man” used 84 times in the Gospels but only by Jesus and only to speak of himself.

Matthew 26:64
“Jesus said to him, ‘You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ ”
7. Jesus stated He is the only way to Heaven.

John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ ”

Matthew 7:13-14
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

What did Jesus do to support His claims?

1. Jesus performed Miracles.
- John the Baptist (Luke 7:18-23)
- Lazarus raised from the Dead (John 11)

2. He was put to death because he was accused of Blasphemy. (Luke 22)

3. He was raised from the Dead. (1 Corinthians 15)

1 Corinthians 15:3-5
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.”
