LIFE GROUP RESOURCES

1. Read Ephesians 6:1-3 The sermon pointed out that the Greek word for "children" (teknia) really means "inhabitants"—anyone living under a parent's roof, regardless of age. How does this reframe who this passage applies to? Who in your life might God be calling you to see as still "a child" in this sense?

2. Read Colossians 3:20 "This verse ties obedience directly to pleasing God. What's the difference between obeying parents because they're always right, versus obeying because it honors God? Has there been a season in your life where obedience to a parent felt hard, but you sensed it was still what God asked of you?

3. Read Luke 2:51-52 Even Jesus—fully God—submitted to his earthly parents. Why do you think this mattered enough to be recorded in Scripture? What does Jesus's example teach us about humility and authority, even when we might "know better"?

4. Read Psalm 27:10 "Not everyone's story with their parents is one of warmth and safety. For those carrying real wounds, this verse offers a different kind of comfort. How does it feel to know God's care for you isn't contingent on how your parents treated you? (Give space here—some in your group may need gentleness, not quick answers.)

5. Read 1 Timothy 5:3-4 The sermon mentioned the "sandwich generation"—those caring for both children and aging parents. What practical ways can our group support one another in caring for aging family members? Is there someone in your life who needs the gift of your time or presence this week?

6. Reflection on Forgiveness The sermon said, "If you cannot honor the person, at least honor the role." For some, honoring a parent is complicated by past hurt. Without needing to share details, what do you think is the difference between forgiving someone and excusing what they did? Is there a step toward forgiveness God might be inviting you to take right now?
