Forgiveness
September 18, 2026
Principle 6: Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.
Matthew 5:7
"Happy are the merciful."
Matthew 5:9
"Happy are the peacemakers"
Step 9: We made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Matthew 5:23-24, NIV
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the alter. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
Have you accepted God's forgiveness?
Romans 3:22-23, GNB
God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ, God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all: everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence.
Have you forgiven those who have hurt you?
Romans 12:17-18, NIV
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Have you forgiven yourself?
Isaiah 1:18a, Living Bible
Come, let's talk this over, "says the Lord;" no matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can take it out and make you as clean as freshly fallen snow.

Isaiah 53:5, NIV
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
1. Stop defining yourself by your failures

2. Stop carrying yesterday's guilt

3. Accept the gift of forgiveness God freely offers you through Christ

4. Let go of shame and regret and allow God's grace to reshape your future

Serenity Prayer
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardships as a pathway to peace;
Taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever and ever in the next.
Amen.

2. Which area of forgiveness was the most difficult for to accept? (God's, other's, yourself)

3. How can you let go of the hurt?

4. What victories have you celebrated?
