What’s something you have way too much of at your house right now?
When you hear the word “enough,” what comes to mind for you? Do you generally feel like you have enough, or do you find yourself thinking about what you still need or want?
What are some things that are easy to convince ourselves we need when, if we're honest, they're really things we want?
Why do you think it can be so difficult to feel content with what we have, even when we have plenty? How do comparison, culture, social media, or our own expectations affect that?
Paul says in Philippians 4 that he learned to be content whether he had plenty or was in need. What do you think it means to learn contentment, rather than simply deciding to be content?
How might trusting God to provide change the way we think about money, possessions, generosity, and the future?
Where is it hardest for you to trust that God has you and will provide what you truly need?
Contentment doesn't mean we can't have dreams, pursue goals, or enjoy nice things. It means we're no longer consumed by “more”. We can be honest about what we have, grateful for what God has given us, and confident that we don't have to have everything figured out because God has us. We don't just have enough because we have enough stuff. Ultimately, we have more than enough because we have Him.
Closing Prayer
God, thank You for everything You have given us. Help us recognize the difference between what we truly need and what we simply want. Teach us to be content with what we have and to trust You with what we don't have. Give us wisdom when we feel the pull toward more, and help us not to live out of fear that we won't have enough. Grow our faith so that we can be generous, peaceful, and confident in Your provision. Thank You that our security isn't found in what we own, what we earn, or what we can control, but in You. Amen.
