Wake Up-1 -- I Didn’t Know I Fell Asleep -- 9/6/2026

Ever fallen asleep without even realizing it? It happens to all of us. But what if you’ve fallen asleep in life—drifting from the people you love, the things that matter most, and even God? It happens a little at a time, until you suddenly realize you’re somewhere you didn’t mean to be. In this message, we're learning how to Wake Up.

On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted. Acts 20:7-12 NIV

Faith prepares for what it’s praying for.

Watch where you sit.
When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Luke 22:45-46 NIV
“... The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41 NIV

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 NIV

Wake up.

Signs You’re Getting Spiritually Sleepy

•Loss of Appetite for God’s Word
•Little or No Desire to Pray
•Things That Used to Convict You Don’t Bother You Anymore
•Avoiding Accountability
•Isolating Yourself From Godly Community
Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” Acts 20:10 NIV

TALK IT OVER

Read Acts 20:7-12. What stands out to you in this passage? What do you imagine it would have been like to be in the room where Paul was teaching?

Review the five signs you might be spiritually sleepy. Which one resonates with you most and why? What could you do to reignite your faith?

This message encourages us to prepare for the things we’re praying for. What are you praying for in this season, and how are you backing up your prayers with action?
