Church for Imperfect People

Esther-2 -- When Comfort Becomes Dangerous -- 8/9/2026
Have you ever looked at your life and wondered where God was? You’re not alone. In the book of Esther, God’s name doesn't appear once, but His fingerprints are on every page. In this series, we'll learn how God showed up in what looked like an ordinary story—and it might change the way you see your own.

God doesn’t position you for comfort; He positions you for purpose.
Some time later King Xerxes promoted Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite over all the other nobles, making him the most powerful official in the empire. 2All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor. Esther 3:1-2 NIV
Sometimes your greatest act of courage is refusing to do what everyone else is doing.
Yet having learned who Mordecai’s people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes. Esther 3:6 NIV
Letters were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with instruction to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all Jews, young and old, women and children, in one day … Esther 3:13 ESV
What looks like chance is often God’s providence in disguise.
Comfort doesn’t just make us comfortable; it makes us less aware.
If you can accomplish everything you’re doing without needing God, you’re probably not living by faith.

TALK IT OVER
Read Esther 3:1-2. Talk about a time when you had the courage to refuse to do what everyone else was doing.
Share about a time when you made a decision that took faith. What did you learn about God through that experience?
How might God be positioning you for His purpose in this season? What steps of faith do you need to take to be more aware of the people and needs around you, so you can step into this calling?
