Fullness Received
John 1:14, 16-18
Pastor Jerry Koller
Theme of John:
Verse 14 is a continuation of what John presented in verse 1.
The Incarnation, the Word becoming flesh, is one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith.
Jesus is fully God and fully man. The theological term for this called the “hypostatic union.”
• Even though Jesus was fully human in every way (except sin), that does not mean it had any effect on His divine nature.
• Even though Jesus is fully God, His divinity (His God-ness) did not affect His human nature.
• He had to be like us in every way (except for sin) so that through His death, atonement (payment) could be made for our sins.
...The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us… He was not an apparition. He is the God-man.
John said He dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father…
...full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) As God the Father is full of grace and truth, so is God the Son, Jesus, the Word made flesh.
• Grace is the expression of God’s favor towards us.
• It is a giving of Himself to us.
Truth is that which has been revealed by God, about God, about His creation, and about man and his responsibilitieswhich is rooted in the character of God.
Receive means to welcome, to recognize and acknowledge Jesus for who He is and believing in Him.
• For many, law and grace seem to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Here, they are both examples of grace and truth.
• The Law reflects God’s character or His essence and our need of a Savior.
• Grace and truth are realized through Jesus the Messiah, the Savior, the Christ. The Savior had come.
This is not just a reference to seeing God with our eyes. It has to do with seeing with the mind, to perceive; to know Him.
“Begotten” is a reference is a reference to uniqueness. It is a reference to one-of-a-kind.
• It reflects a unique relationship—in this case with God the Father.
• All that the Father is, the Son is. He shares the same divine nature.
The word “bosom” has to do with having the closest, most intimate relationship with someone—in this case, with the Father.
He has explained Him... More literally, He has made Him (the Father) known.
APPLICATION
We celebrate a day that reminds us that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In Him is life, and that life is the Light of men.
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
To those who believe in Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.

Prayer Initiative: Meal and Reveal

Participants who signed up for the Prayer Initiative at the beginning of this year are invited to join us for this event on Saturday, 4/11, at 6:00pm upstairs as we share a meal together and reveal who has been secretly praying for whom over the past several months.

Hearing Assistance Devices Available

We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.

Have You Considered?

Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.

Pop Cans = Scholarships

Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
